Automatic Failover
Resilience is not limited to reacting to complete outages. Modern failover solutions can continuously monitor the health and performance of internet circuits, automatically responding when predefined thresholds are exceeded. Rather than waiting for a service to fail completely, connectivity can be automatically redirected when performance degrades to an unacceptable level. For many organisations, a severely degraded internet connection can be just as disruptive as a complete outage. The ability to automatically switch to an alternative service before performance reaches unacceptable levels helps ensure that internet connectivity does not become a barrier to normal business operations.
Redundant Firewalls
In many environments, the firewall represents one of the most critical single points of failure within the network. Often positioned at the edge of the network, it controls and secures traffic entering and leaving the environment. Switch stacking removes many of the risks associated with relying on a single switch. Multiple switches operate together as a single logical unit, improving both resilience and manageability. By interconnecting switches and providing resilient uplinks back to the core infrastructure, individual cable or hardware failures can remain isolated to the affected device or connection rather than impacting the wider network.
Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS)
Even the most resilient technology environment ultimately depends on a stable power supply. A brief power interruption can result in servers, storage platforms, network infrastructure, and other critical systems shutting down unexpectedly, potentially causing service disruption, data loss, lengthy recovery times, and impacts to day-to-day business operations. UPS solutions provide temporary battery backup, helping protect critical equipment from unexpected power loss while allowing systems to remain operational long enough for an orderly shutdown or failover process to take place. Not every system requires battery backup, nor is it always practical or cost-effective to protect an entire environment. By identifying the services most critical to business operations, backup power solutions can be targeted where they deliver the greatest resilience benefit and operational value
