Hotels & Resorts
Common Challenges of Hotel Operators
Guest Expectations Continue to Rise
Guests increasingly expect the same levels of connectivity, streaming, digital services, and convenience they enjoy at home. Meeting those expectations consistently across every room, facility, and touchpoint can be challenging
Technology Is Supporting More Than Ever Before
Modern hotels rely on technology to support far more than guest Wi-Fi. From PMS platforms, payments, CCTV, and access control through to IPTV, communications, and operational systems, a growing number of services now depend on the same underlying infrastructure.
Balancing Brand Standards with Operational Reality
Whether driven by hospitality brands, management companies, insurers, or internal governance requirements, hotels are often expected to meet increasingly complex technology, security, and compliance standards whilst maintaining day-to-day operations
Too Many Suppliers, No Clear Accountability
Networking, telephony, security, guest technologies, AV, and support services are often delivered by different providers. When problems arise, responsibility can become unclear, slowing resolution and increasing operational frustration.
Technology Decisions Have Long-Term Consequences
Technology investments can have implications for years to come. Deciding whether to optimise, upgrade, replace, or standardise systems is rarely straightforward, particularly when recommendations, budgets, and business priorities conflict
Managing Complex and Distributed Environments
From guestrooms and conference facilities to restaurants, leisure areas, staff spaces, and outdoor environments, hotels must deliver a consistent experience across a wide range of different operational and guest-facing spaces.

How does it work?
When submitting your request on ORCA or SNOW select Reivernet as one of your preferred partners and the Connected Hospitality team will do the rest.

Marriott
- ORCA is Marriott's Online RFP tool for Existing Managed properties going through a GPNS refresh.
- Bids are submitted here, and Reivernet pass them to us, with all the information from the hotel.
- Questions can be raised in ORCA, along with any specific requests and anything raised in ORCA is visible to all who bid.
- Deadlines are provided and are normally immovable. Our deadline to Reivernet is always 2 days before the Marriott deadline.
- ORCA bids are a 2-round process, Desktop and Shortlist.
- Desktop bid – First round bid, done based on supplied documentation with no communication with hotel contacts.
- Shortlist bid – Usually 3 'best' bids selected to submit a best and final offer based on site survey (if necessary).

Hilton
- SNOW is Hilton's online RFP tool for both Managed AND Franchised properties, used for UnoNet, StayConnected & Connected Room refreshes.
- Bids are submitted here, and Reivernet pass them to us, with all the information from the hotel.
- All hardware, procurement routes and commercials are dictated by Hilton and are visible in SNOW.
- So why choose us? Although we can't change the product mix or price you pay for it there are many other ways that we can reduce the cost of your Integrated hospitality system.
- Although Hilton has strict rules on many of the technologies that build up their hotel network infrastructure, there are several solutions that don't fall under the RFP process: Wireless Connectivity, CCTV & Security, IoT, AI & Data aggregation, UPS & Power protection and Digital signage.

Independent Single Sites
The Myth
"A local IT company can do the same job for less"
For many independent hotels, technology is viewed as a collection of individual systems rather than a connected environment. If the Wi-Fi works, the TVs switch on, the card machines process payments, and guests aren't complaining, it's easy to assume everything has been installed correctly. That often makes a general IT provider, electrician, or local contractor appear to be the most sensible option.
The Reality
Hospitality specialists are more accessible than you'd think
A hotel's technology environment extends far beyond guest Wi-Fi. Booking systems, payment terminals, staff devices, CCTV, telephony systems, and business records all rely on the same underlying infrastructure. Third-party contractors are frequently engaged to deliver a specific element of that environment, but without understanding how it fits into the bigger picture, vulnerabilities can be introduced unintentionally. A solution that appears to work perfectly well on the surface may provide a route into other parts of the business network, potentially exposing sensitive data, business systems, financial information, and other critical services. Hospitality expertise helps ensure technology is considered as part of the wider environment, protecting both the guest experience and the business itself.
The Myth
"The technology used by larger hotel brands is out of reach"
It's easy to assume that the systems used by major hotel brands are only available to organisations with large budgets, dedicated IT departments, and dozens or even hundreds of properties. As a result, many independent hotels settle for solutions that appear 'good enough' without exploring what else may be available.
The Reality
Enterprise Hospitality Isn't Reserved for Enterprise Hotels
Many of the technologies used by major hotel groups are available to independent properties. The difference is not access to the technology itself, but understanding how to apply it effectively within the needs and budget of an individual hotel. Independent hotels can often benefit from the same platforms, solutions, and design principles used by larger operators, without the complexity or cost typically associated with large-scale deployments. Through established hospitality vendors, supplier relationships, and purchasing frameworks, independent hotels can access technologies that deliver the same standards of performance, reliability, and guest experience at a scale that makes sense for their property.
The Myth
"It's easier and safer to stick with what we have"
When existing systems are still functioning, it can be difficult to justify investment in newer technology. Many independent hotels continue to rely on ageing infrastructure because it appears to be working adequately and replacing it can feel like an unnecessary expense. Without a clear understanding of the benefits, costs, and potential disruption involved, maintaining the status quo can often feel like the safest option.
The Reality
Standing still often carries hidden costs
Technology rarely fails all at once. More often, performance declines gradually through increasing support requirements, higher operating costs, limited functionality, and a growing number of guest and staff frustrations. Ageing systems can result in rising support costs, poor reliability, security concerns, and guest experiences that no longer meet expectations. Understanding the true cost of maintaining existing systems helps operators make informed decisions about when to optimise, upgrade, or replace technology.
The Myth
"Guests complain about the Wi-Fi, but we don't know what the actual issue is or how to fix it"
Guest complaints often focus on the Wi-Fi because it's the most visible part of the technology experience. When problems occur, it can be difficult to understand whether the issue is the internet connection, wireless coverage, network capacity, building construction, guest devices, or something else entirely.
The Reality
The Wi-Fi isn't always the problem
Poor connectivity is rarely caused by a single issue. Coverage, capacity, network design, device configuration, interference, and internet connectivity can all affect performance. Simply adding more access points or upgrading hardware often fails to address the underlying cause. The most effective approach is understanding where the problem actually lies. Site surveys, heat mapping, performance analysis, and network reviews provide the visibility needed to identify the root cause, allowing issues to be resolved properly rather than repeatedly worked around.
The Myth
"Wi-Fi is Wi-Fi"
From the outside, most wireless solutions look very similar. Access points are mounted on walls or ceilings, guests connect their devices, and internet access is available throughout the property. It can be difficult to understand why one solution costs more than another or why different providers recommend different approaches.
The Reality
Design matters more than the hardware
Whilst access points may appear similar, the performance of a wireless network is influenced by far more than the equipment itself. Coverage, capacity planning, building construction, network design, security, guest density, and device behaviour all play a significant role in the overall experience. The difference between a reliable hospitality network and a frustrating one often comes down to design, configuration, and deployment rather than the hardware being used. Hospitality-focused solutions are built around the way guests and staff actually use technology, helping ensure consistent performance, reliability, and a better experience for everyone on the property.

Conference & Events-Focused Hotels
The Challenge
Concentrated Demand in Key Spaces
Large conferences and exhibitions create intense pressure on connectivity, with hundreds or thousands of devices competing for bandwidth in the same areas at the same time.
Uneven Usage Across the Venue
Demand fluctuates dramatically between quiet guest areas and high-traffic event zones, making consistent performance harder to maintain.
Complex Guest Navigation
Delegates must move between multiple rooms, sessions, and spaces, often in unfamiliar environments, leading to confusion and reliance on staff.
Dependency on External Providers
AV teams, exhibitors, and production crews all bring their own technical requirements, creating potential for clashes or last-minute complications.
Rising Expectations for Live & Hybrid Events
Streaming, video calls, and real-time content sharing are now common requirements and demand low latency and stability.
Multiple Organisations, Shared Environment
Different event organisers and exhibitors require secure, isolated access within the same venue.

Aparthotels & Serviced Accommodation
The Challenge
Managing Guest Access
The arrival experience sets the tone for the entire stay. Whether guests are collecting physical keys, accessing lockboxes, using PIN codes, or receiving digital credentials, every step introduces opportunities for friction, delays, and operational complexity. For operators, access management must balance convenience, security, and efficiency. Every failed access attempt, forgotten credential, support call, lost key, or out-of-hours issue creates additional workload and can negatively impact the guest experience before they have even entered the property.
Home Comforts, Commercial Responsibilities
Guests choose this style of accommodation because it offers the comfort, flexibility, and independence of a space that feels more like home than a hotel room. Every point of friction — struggling to connect devices, navigating unfamiliar technology, dealing with complicated entertainment systems, or finding services that don't work as expected — moves the experience further away from what guests are looking for. At the same time, operators must balance simplicity and convenience with the privacy, security, and operational controls needed to run a professional hospitality environment.
Running Properties Without On-Site Teams
Many operators manage multiple properties with little or no on-site resource. Without reception teams or dedicated facilities staff, visibility into day-to-day operations can be limited, making it difficult to identify issues before they begin to impact guests. A window left open can result in unnecessary heating costs for days, whilst an undetected water leak can cause significant damage before anybody is aware of it. The challenge is not simply responding to problems when they occur, but identifying them early enough to prevent unnecessary cost, disruption, and impact on the guest experience.
The Connected Hospitality Way
Balancing Security and Convenience
Guest access is about far more than the lock on the door. We help operators create arrival experiences that are secure, reliable, and easy to manage by carefully integrating guest communications, digital check-in, access control, and credential management into a seamless end-to-end process. The most effective solutions are designed around the operating model, guest journey, security requirements, and wider technology environment, ensuring access remains simple for guests whilst reducing operational overhead, support requests, and day-to-day administration.
Consumer Experiences, Commercial Control
The best guest technology feels familiar and effortless to use. Reliable connectivity, secure casting, intuitive onboarding, and seamless entertainment experiences help guests feel at home without introducing unnecessary complexity or frustration. Features such as secure casting, guest isolation, account protection, and automated credential management help ensure convenience for guests does not come at the expense of operational risk.
Proactive Operations
Connected sensors and monitoring technologies provide real-time visibility across the property, helping operators identify issues before they escalate. Through Connected OneView, data from multiple systems can be aggregated into a single operational view, providing insight across properties, technologies, and environments. By integrating with property management, maintenance, access control, and building management systems, alerts and workflows can be automated based on changing conditions, helping organisations move from reactive maintenance to proactive operation.
